It's definitely a decent cam, but I hate the implementation of A2 in AF-S. Although the manual suggests otherwise, setting it to the focus priority will still allow the shutter to fire when nothing is in focus. This sucks ! What's the logic ?
So I put this one down at Nikon.

Re: D800 is a game changer for macro photography
Pretty stunning really. Good to see the D800 doesnt cause that much moire. I had my shot on a D800 of my own today. Picked it up this morning, brought it back in the afternoon. The whole AF module was off. From left to right, the correction of +20 did not fix it. I'm lucky I 've got a dealer who kno...

Re: D800 for macro with a $100.00 lens...
Stany, you did use a very fast shutter speed for the non-moving bee. The second one was even faster. Any reason for that? What would it have been like at slower shutter speeds ? What was the focal length, particularly in shot number 3 ?

Re: Anyone with a d7000 and a D800?
Hi guys. Spanjaart: judging from the jpg's at higher isos presented at NR, you are dead right. But we should not forget the fact that the D800 shines as a Fx camera. Downsampling...hmm. done that. It's true, it helps. But it also means extra work Guy: Let me know if you get it. If you can help me wi...

Anyone with a d7000 and a D800?
Can anyone help me to get two iso 25600 NEf files: one from a D7000 and one from a D800 in Dx crop mode?
Scenes should be identical. Both pictures should be taken with the same lens and light conditions should fit the high iso (so no shutter speeds of 1/500th sec).

Iso 25600.
Yes... Taken from the NEF file, used ACR 6.7 only. Nothing really fancy actually. Basically, its a 1/50 sec picture at f/8. Luminance NR parameters were all three set at 50, but the color noise was only 19 and 50.

Re: D4 portraits straight out of the cam at very high iso
Iso 12800 is good, very good. Iso 25600 is still more than good enough but above that Stany needs a lot of NR and the pretty girl seems to have 'gelled out' her hair completely! I've been testing with new D800 and D4 hi iso files. When it comes to prints, my conclusion is that up to iso 25600 I will...

Did you see the D800 nefs from the polish site. Try to guess the iso value!
F/8, 1/50 sec, processed in raw, than reduced to 1000 pixels wide. I did not use Lanczos because CS5 doesn't have it.. No sharpening afterwards.

Re: Nikon D7000 review...
I see what you mean, James. Actually, even after applying the new curves you might have to correct the white balance, DaveG (saw it on a video). Basically, it works in most cases if you have one shaded and one well lit shot of the checker for each body-lens combo. It than corrects the colors based o...

Re: Nikon D7000 review...
Most definitely it helps, James. Thanks for the work.
Now the the first thing I would like to know is what you actually changed. Did you, by any change, generally, pull back the blue channel and increase the red ( and possibly yellow) channel ?

Re: Nikon D7000 review...
Hi James, thanks for jumping in. Yes, it would be nice to have a look at the skin colors with and without WB adjusted but with PP in the latter to see what you mean. But as far as I know, any change in WB always influences colors. So I guess what you mean is that changing the WB does not always solv...

So you prefer the D3s style DX mode, with a greyed out FX area ? Doesn't it work like looking through a double keyhole ?

Re: Nikon D7000 review...
Is it only in the skin tones, or is it a general WB aspect of the D7000 ? In that case, why wouldn't you adjust the AWB in the camera itself?Leen Koper wrote:Adding a very, very tiny bit of yellow and just a little less magenta they all are OK again.

Re: D800 detailed specifications
Im surprized about the handling of the crop mode. Elsewhere, I read the viewfinder in crop mode was similar to the D700, but in the D700 it only masks the outer area if you chose not to illuminate the AF point. Now it is claimed that it masks like in the D3s and D4. Puzzled...

So, read noise in ADU from of a D800 is generally slightly higher when compared to a D7000 ?

Re: Hello to everyone !
Thanks for the welcome, guys ! Stany, I get your point. But there is also something about changing priorities in my photography. That's the most difficult thing. I could probably do everything with the new D400 if Nikon handles noise in the 24 Mp sensor similarly to the way they did it in the D800. ...

Re: D4 and D800E shootout.
Stany, there was a lot of blotchy, patchy stuff in the D4 jpgs, as you said yourself. But if I remember the Hi iso NR was set to high, wasn't it ? If you take the iso 25600 NEF with your daughter and run it through NX2, how does it behave in terms of noise handling if you put the Hi so noise reducti...

Re: D4 and D800E shootout.
I'm quite puzzeled with the results. I've used the D800 iso 25600 pictures from our russian friends, and I used Stany's D4 sample with his daughter. Resized the D800 to a 16 Mp resolution and than applied NR, sharpening, contrast and saturation to both. The D4 NEF file is easier to clean up for sure...
