Well, if your reasoning is true, then Nikon will release the D4 and D400.

Same thing as with your software, one has to finetune the masks.

Well, Nikon sure would make a lot of people very happy with a D800 of that price and specs.
It would give us Nikonians a 5DII killer finally
Who knows, I might buy one and sell my Sony A900 kit.

Well, I guess, it´s progress. So 40 Mpix will come after all.
But what I wonder is, how is this translucent technology going to perform.
Do we lose light with it? Anyone has such a Sony DLSR?

Hi James,
it´s a set up with two strobes. One bigger rectangle softbox is on the right hand in the front, one strip light is on the left in the back. I like soft light and that´s what it creates.

I was shocked to find that high megapixel cameras are much more prone to camera shake when using studio strobes. I keep ruining a few shots in a session with the A900 while all my D3 images don´t show any blur.

Leen, it is not so much the price, call me conservative, but it is the handling of larger files as well. It takes more time. When you have a 99% RAW workflow like me, it does matter. Re: Sony Nex-5 as a portrait camera
I bought a NEX 3 for my vacation in Thailand in December and I´m exploring it these days. It´s the two kit lens kit, 16 mm and 18-55 OIS. Both lenses need to be stopped down to be really sharp. So it was not love at first sight, but I wanted this to be the camera I had wanted for a long time. It is ...

No matter what Nikon will issue, I won´t buy it. With today´s technology I still need two cameras. One for high ISO and conveniently small image files and one for resolution.

Yes, there are many ways of creating "glow" or soft light. I did some of that and then add some blur to smoothe skin pores (not too much, though).

Re: D700 compared to Fuji S5
Well, ADL slightly underexposes to preserve highlights and applies a curve to lift shadows and three-quarter tones. No magic there. If you expose to the right and apply a curve in pp, you do the same, just manually. The D3/D700 are the only cameras around that are so noise-free that one can try usin...

Re: NIK plug ins
Rudy, some browsers cannot display color profiles. Sounds like you used Adobe RGB in this image and see it in sRGB. I like those images, but I would reduce the effect. Will try out the soft focus and other NIK soon. Best, Pam Hello Leen, I agree the shop interior is not the best. It´s very strange, ...

I´d like to underline what Sam said. I get great results with the neutral settings profile in Lightroom and my D3. Still the greatest and most versatile camera I have, a joy to use. Here is a sample of my nephew in mixed light. 3 secs of finetuning skin tone per image get this. And - yes - skintones...

Lovely image! I would take it easier on the vignetting, though, but I guess that is a matter of taste.
I usually slightly tune WB into a warmer direction, not too much, though.

Thank you, Leen, for your tips, they are very much appreciated.
Experience means a lot in photography, I learned.
One of the things that I also found out is that changing the lighting can be a hassle when things get dynamic.
Hm, an assistant would be nice ;)

Re: Leica X1 and Leica M9
Let´s hope these will be successful. The initial images I have seen were not mind-blowing, though.
Shadow areas are clogged up. But I wish Leitz well, they are such a great part of photographic history.
Oh, I have bought myself a M6 + Cron 50 yesterday. Waiting for its arrival.

Hi Stany,
there is no Zeiss zoom for Nikon, but from what I could judge the quality between Nikkor and Zeiss is not too different.
Better center sharpness vs. sharpness to the far border.
I will email you ;) But, honestly, it is so heavy ...

Re: Nikon D700 & Canon 5DMkII side by side comparison...
Stany, sorry, but I think there is still something not optimal about detail/sharpness in your crop. Unfortunately, we live so far apart, we cannot just put the A900 and 5DII to the test next to each other, but I´d suspect I´d get much better results with the A900 and the 24-70. I´m selling off my Ni...

Re: Are all Zeiss lenses MF only?
There you go, James. Sony somehow can produce Zeiss-designed lenses with AF functionality.
I once read that all other Zeiss-designed lenses would be too expensive with AF for license reasons.
Cosina makes the ZF line, but it is another Japanese company that produces for Minolta.

Re: Nikon D700 & Canon 5DMkII side by side comparison...
Stany, when I purchased the A900 last year, I meant to buy two or three sigma or tamron primes with it. I tried about five different lenses, also by Minolta and then bought Zeiss lenses and never looked back. If you want those 24 MP, you will need AF accuracy, vibrationless shooting, top grade lense...

Re: Budget FF camera from Canon coming soon???
The 7D was rumored parallel to the 5D some time ago. People said it would be a higher spec 5D, but who knows.
What I find more interesting is the Sony A850 which is said to be a below 2.000 Euro 24 Mpix cam. The street prices could hit 1.700 Euros soon.

I think this effect is rather subtle. I see it everywhere in images and I like it.
In this case I would use it on a copy of the original at 80% transparency.
But overall I like it very much.

Hi Leen, I think the best way would be either the Channel Mixer or a black and white layer.
There you have the option of dosing RGB channels. Think b/w filters on analog cameras.

Re: I was playing with a 5DMkII yesterday...
It is probably me, but I don´t like the ergonomics of the 5DI or II. As you may know I owned the 5DI and to me it was a spartanic camera. Either use the middle autofocus point and reframe or focus manually. It had its charms and so does the 5DII, but the D3 just fits my hands so well, it is the near...

Re: Is Fuji DSLR definitively history?
Hard to tell, the odds are against another Fuji DSLR in Nikon mount. The market is too small for such a camera, it would be too expensive. Not that I wouldn´t want such a camera, but would I pay 3000 $ for a 12 Mpix camera ... (well, I might even do it, but I´m crazy). I speculate we will see lots o...
