I learned this technique from Mark Dijsselberge (http://blog.mdsign.nl/ ), a real master in this. Underneath pictures are not critically sharp because of the lens. I used and old 35-80 zoom, reversed, which is very difficult to work with. When insects will apprear in a couple of weeks, I'll try again with a nikkor 24mm AFD reversed, which should give better results.

do you find this easier to use than a conventional macro lens? I know that you can go beyond 1:1 this way and I've thought of playing to see what it is like. What is your working distance from the end of the lens?

Hi James, thanks for your reaction. It's a much more difficult technique because of shallow DOF and no AF possibilities, but it creates magnifications that you can"t obtain with a conventional macro, even not with extention tubes. It's a good technique for very small insects and subjects though...
