Re: My first steps in macro...
nice start. I would close down to f16 to get a bit more dof, increase ISO or use flash to compensate...

Re: My first steps in macro...
Nice first pics Richard. I wonder what kind of lens your were using

Thanks Guy, you're right. With your advice, I think that f13 is the minimum, and it was a enough light, but...Guy Van Hooveld wrote:nice start. I would close down to f16 to get a bit more dof, increase ISO or use flash to compensate...

Very good first start! I agree with Guy's suggestions above. Other than that, they are still very good...

Re: My first steps in macro...
Hi Richard.
Thanks for posting these images.
I used to work with a D200 with very good results going upto iso400. D80 sensor should be even a little better about noise than D200 so this should work. Next to that you need more DOF, so as others already adviced use F13 to F16, over that diffraction will show up. Some flashlight will be needed...
My setup is mostly M mode, shutter speed as fast as possible(1/320sec with D700), maximum aperture until diffraction limit, adapt iso to that and compensate with flashlight, if possible with diffuser.
Use spotmetering if your insect's colour is darker than the leaf it's sitting on.
Hope this helps. Keep posting!
