Since about two months I switched from win XP pro to Windows Vista 64 bit. Great OS, very stabile and the speed increase in fantastic, only one problem: I could not see the NEF thumbnails anymore in win explorer and no NEF file support in Windows Photo Gallery. Unfortunately Microsoft did not release a RAW viewer for Win Vista 64bit yet, the 32-bit version doesn't work...
After some research on the internet I found this: http://www.ardfry.com/nef-codec/ , and it simply works great.
And about Vista 64-bit compatibility: After having installed th SP1, all my 32bit programs work flawless (also Fuji Hyper Utiliy RAF software) and I have no problem whatsoever with hardware.
Nikon Capture NX2 and Nikon view work flawless as well. I redirected the cache for both Nikon Capture NX2 and NikonView to a separate drive, this increases the overall speed quite a bit. Opening several D3X files together, no problem...
No Windows 32 bit for me anymore...
