D700 and D7000 is a nice team..

Post by Stany Buyle »

3 years ago I was exchanging my D3 for a D700 for reasons of size, weight and PUFlash . Never regretted that decision, on the contrary...

Sometimes a second camera is necessary and I was long time considering a second D700 but I expected a D700 successor with more resolution and waited until beginning this month, D800 didn't come yet, and probably will be postponed more because of the terrible nature disaster in Japan.
I finally went for a D7000 and it's a great combo. D700 for wide with 16-35 and lowlight and D7000 for it's extended DR at base iso (I used to shoot S5pro before D3), reach and resolution. 12Mp to 16Mp is more than I expected it to be and the crop factor for tele and macro is making your lens arsenal to muliple focal use.
Upto that the D7000' AF is fantastic.I cannot see any difference in AF lock and accuracy between my D700 with 70-200VRII+ 2xTCIII and the D7000 with 70-200VRII+ 2xTCIII. There is a difference in AF speed with non-AF-S lenses but I only use one of those and only on my D700.
The enormous difference in shutter noise between D700 and D7000 and the extra "silent mode" D7000 has is another good reason to have a D7000 next to a D700. For theatre and similar situations where silence is required D700 is unusable...
Carrying 2 cameras is heavy, but when I see my friend lugging around with his D3x and D3s I prefer my combo. Up to that and TMHO at iso 100 the D7000 IQ is on pair with D3x...
And last but not least, D7000 is a bargain for what it offers...

Just my thoughts... ;)
kindest regards,

Stany
I like better one good shot in a day than 10 bad ones in a second...

Being the owner of a D700/D90/D5000 combo, I think you are absoluterly right. FX and DX is a wonderful combination with the extra reach on both sides.
About your friend lugging both a D3s and D3x around with, without any doubt, some extremely heavy lenses, I think he is to see a doctor very soon (back problems)
