D800 and D400 will be released on Feb 7th.

Post by AA2 »

I think probably someone is interested about this: D800 and D400 will be released on Feb 7th.
A popular rumor site was right about specs of one of both cams...
A77 has a good sensor that fits in Nikon bodies as well...

Exciting, some questions...

Post by Stany Buyle »

Hi "AA2"... ;)
Exciting news. Thanks for posting this.

Can you go a little more into details?
Do you mean the specs posted by NR or these by Bryan Peterson? There is 20Mp difference in their respective hints for the D700 successor... :D Even with only that difference in Mp most people would be happy for a D700'successor...
About D400, if D800 would be 36 Mp, why a need for a pro DX camera? A crop of a 36Mp is 16Mp, isn't that enough? A77 with 24Mp is quite noisy above iso 400...
After D4 just being released, I understand a D800 release while with 36Mp it is a total different camera aiming at a different buyers public and made for different purposes, but 3 DSLR's in 4 weeks, isn't that too much?
And availability, if that D800 is true? When will it be available? Same question for D400...

Thanks in advance.
kindest regards,

Stany

Simple. The D800 will be a FX with 36 mp. The D400 will be a DX with 24 mp. :D There is a waiting audience for both. Save your dollars! Maybe even a lens of two!!!

About Mp I'm pretty confident that will be it, AA2 was rather clear abou this. With my curiousity about details I aim f.i. for details about AF in D800. F8 like D4 or F5.6 like D3 and D700. F8 is decisive for a 200-400 AF-S + 2x TCIII. Rudy sold his 200-400 after he found out that it doesn't focus with his 2xTC on his D3s and D3x, and he bought a Sigma 500mm to replace that. I'm very tempted by the 200-400 for a long time, but only then if it would work with the dream TC...
Another thing I would like to know is about the D4 silent mode, will D800 have this as well?...
And more...

I'm pretty sure we won't hear AA2 anymore until Feb 7th though, for several reasons, very busy as one of those reasons ;) ...
kindest regards,

Stany

Now partly confirmed by NR...

Post by DiederikVP »

The D800 to be announced on Feb 7th is now confirmed by nikonrumors:
http://nikonrumors.com/2012/01/26/nikon-d800-on-february-7th-coolpix-cameras-on-february-2nd.aspx/

More than a week later than this site. ;)
And they do not talk about D400, just imagine AA2 is right... That would be 8-)

I am guessing that the D400 might well be a 24mp sensor - probably a modification of the D3x sensor. That would leave an orderly progression from the D7000 (16mp), D400 (24mp), and D800 (36mp). Then for the low light folks, the D4. That would be one heck of a lineup! I still would be very surprised to see a D400 on the 7th. Maybe March. :P

I assumed that a D400 would be APS-C still and would be based on the Sony 24mp APS-C sensor

If the D400 has an articulated screen then I might sell my D5100 to get it. The articulated screen is the only way I can take pictures below 3ft and I would like a few more pixels.

Hi Brian,
I personally doubt about a D400 being released together with D800. I can imagine AA2 mixed up "2 new cameras" not expecting two versions of the D800. Of course that person(AA2) is much closer to the info source than I am, but I doubt, we'll see in two days from now...
kindest regards,

Stany
