Hello Nikon friends,
As a very modest outdoor photographer, I took my D800 mounted with a recently acquired 24-85 lens for some testing. Obviously plenty of light in the Swiss Alps on that sunny Saturday, all I can say is I have yet to find fault with this lens : reasonable sharpness from f/5.6 up to 70mm, good contrast and colors - and of some worth when taking outdoor trips : light and compact to carry on strenuous terrain for day-long hikes! Anyhow, a nice FX lens that defends itself quite well in good light conditions with static subjects
Just a few examples in this gallery : http://goo.gl/yJRvE
(mod) And from the same series you can find some on this forum in the images section.

Thank you for your appreciation Rita - I'm only a beginner here, therefore the url copy/paste; I promise to post future pics directly to the forum as my confidence will grow

Hi Anton, how do you like distortion at 24 mm? I always find it too much on my 24-120 f4 VR.

Hi Pam, obviously some slight distortion at 24mm (wouldn't shoot portraits with it), but was able to correct this with the lens profile in DXO Optics Pro and to be honest, didn't disturb me much for landscapes

First: very nice images!
Second: you wrote "lowly." In my opinion there are no bad lenses any more, especially when compared to the ones of 10-15 years ago. The technique of building optics has so much evolved there are no comparisons to be made any more with the ones build only a few years ago. It is quite remarkable that i don´t hesitate any more tu use my 18/105 in the studio and the 55/200 on location. Who has dreamt about this a few years ago....

Leen, thanks for you appreciation - now then, I wrote specifically "lowly" in quotes because I for one believe like you do that there are no bad lenses as such!
