D7100 is WOW!

D7100 is WOW! :o

A relative compact DSLR with ...
•Without AA filter. Having used D800 and D800e side by side for monthsI am aware of the more crispy images you get without AA filter. After thousands of shots with both, moire with a D800E is nearly a non issue.
•pro weather sealing.
•a pro AF system like D800 and D4,
•24Mp with 1.3 crop mode which gives you in relation to AF a nearly fully covered field of view
F8 AF support which enables a super pro lenses like 400-600mm F4 to double the focal with the 2xTCIIIe
•Improved LCD, I hope this improves Live view possibilities ... Don't know, hope so. Live view is a weak point from D800
•and more...

I'm curious for Steve Bingham' opinion on this new camera. 8-)

And all this for 1150 euros...

Simply great! Thanks Nikon.

Hi Stany,

The D7100 is pretty much what I predicted back in August of 2012 - but I sure took a lot of flack in the dpreview forums!!! :D Without the AA filter this sensor should produce some stunning resolution. It might also use a body very similar to the D600 being as they weigh almost the same - 765 vs 760 grams. (The D600 being ever so slightly less weight.) With a bigger buffer, 6-7 fps, 100% viewfinder, good weather sealing, excellent video (1080/30p), 51 point AF, OLED display, pro construction, etc, this will kill off the D300s upgrade. At a MSRP (USA) of $1,199 this should be hot seller!!!! Now all DX needs is a few more f4 lenses. I expect those in the next few months.

True. It is a great camera - and should sell like crazy. However, I have a few questions:

1- Will the DR match the D600? (or even the D7000) I suspect not. Look for at least a stop less.

2- Will high ISO noise exceed the D7000? How about the D600? Probably not, and maybe worse

3- Will Nikon get busy and give us more pro f4 glass soon? Probably not.

However:

1- The D7100 has a higher shutter speed than the D600

2- The D7100 has more selections for bracketing (HDR folks will love this)

3- The D7100 has OLED display

4- Etc, etc

And why wasn't this camera released 8-10 months ago? Remember last spring when I said it was being tested? Prototypes have been out there for a year!!!! A lot of pros have been testing them for 6 months. My guess is that they really wanted to give the D800, D800e, and D600 a good launch period. (Higher profit in FX at $2,000-$3,300 cameras than $1,300 for DX. Much higher profit in FX glass than DX glass)

I am by no means an expert, but I think the D7100 will probably have similar dynamic range and noise property as the D7000.
