Re: Question about tamron28-300 on D700...
Hi Filip.
Sold my 28-300VC. Although a good lens it's not in the nikon18-200 AF-SVR DX-quality league. I'm waiting Nikon to release a 28-300 AF-S VR F3.5-5.6.
The tamron is F6.3 over 200mm and is slow focusing and hunting in low light. AF speed is-eventhough acceptable- not like an AF-S lens.
VC works great but makes a weird noise.
28-300 VC is a great lens for travel photography to sunny regions...
I liked the 28-300 non-VC quite well(used it on my D100), and while D700 enables iso 800-1250 without any disturbing noise, it should be a good lens as well and much cheaper...
And BTW, congratulations with your D700...

Hello
Thx for the replies and congratulations.
Is Nikon about to release a 28-300 - would be a nice travellens. I had a 17-55 2.8 on my D300 (sold it) and I am going to buy the 28-70 2.8 for sure.
Learning to get to grips with my new D700

Hi Flip
So it appears by all accounts, from here and elsewhere, that the Tammy 28-300VC just does not cut it. I kind of wanted one for goofing around with my D3 when I don't want to haul the entire kit. But the AF performance and general IQ make it sound like it just not a winner. I do also have the D300 and 18-200VR - so I will keep that around for those days.
I know you really wanted to like yours too Stany - so that says a lot about it not being up to snuff...
