D500 with Nikon 200-500 for close-up photography...

Post by Stany Buyle »

After lots of experiments with different kind of lenses for dragonfly photography I get the most exciting results with my Nikon 200-500.
Of course it isn't as sharp as images taken with a macro lens and you can't go as close to the subject but it works perfect for dragonflies in flight, normal poses and because of the distance, the insects do not feel threatened.

Underneath pictures were taken handheld and they are basically straight out of the camera, without sharpening, noise reduction or any other image post processing. In-camera settings were vivid, with sharpening set to +5.5, contrast to +0,5, saturation at +1 and hue +0,5.
I posted a 100% crop to give an idea of the native sharpness..
