Problem with D700 AF module...(with link to AVI movie)

Post by Stany Buyle »

I have a very weird problem with my D700 AF module.

Since a while my D700 with my new sigma 180mm macro is terribly trembling, shivering (sorry don't know the correct word in English) until it locks focus @ closer focusing distances but also @ longer focusing distances, sometimes it keeps just trembling, hunting for focus.... The two green AF arrows in the viewfinder just tremble from left to right @ a multiple times per second rate...
The problem occurs both in AF-S and in AF-C mode...
I don't have this problem while using screw driven macro lens.
I tried to swtich off, on, took battery out, changed lenses, modified AF-lock on setting from "off" to short, over medium and long, changed the AF setting @ the back of the camera, nothing helps...

The problem is not consistent, sometimes it goes fine, then it occurs again... Since a couple of days it's very bad again...
I posted a AVI file where you can see the problem "life".(24.5mb)

I would appreciate your reactions on this matter very much.
kindest regards,

It finally was the 180mm sigma that was defective and it's send in for repair. Underwhile bought a new 105AF-S VR, and no problems anymore.
My impressions about sigma 180mm vs nikkor 105 AF-S VR on D700, I like the nikkor much better, the VR comes in very handsome.
kindest regards,

Stany
