First images with Sony A900 in studio

Post by pam.meier »

I purchased a Sony A900 for studio use. Here is my first portrait in studio and a crop.

Hi Pamela,
The detail you get in the crop is simply stunning. Did you postprocess or sharpen this image?
Which lenses did you buy to go together with the A900?
Thanks for posting this.
Kindest regards, Stany

Stany, the quest for the right lenses to go with the A900 has turned out to lead me to Zeiss optics.

I currently use:
Zeiss 24-70/2.8
Tamron 90/2.8
Minolta 50/1.7 (f8 at distance not so great, need to test it further)

I ordered
Zeiss 135/1.8

I had and returned:
Sigma 70/2.8 macro
Sigma 28/2.8 macro
Minolta 24/2.8

The Tamron is too sharp for a portrait lens actually, but with a little touch of beauty retouching it is quite capable.
The Zeiss 135 is said to be the sharpest optic around from 1.8 on. I will keep you posted.

Pamela, I am seriously considering buying an A900, but what holds me back sofar is the colour. I 'm just on the internet with my uncalibrated laptop, so that might be the reason. But these images you posted, are they really that cool? I miss the warm colours and saturation of my Fuji S5.

Hi Leen,

the problem with cool vs. warm colors is probably related to color profiles and browsers.
I embed Adobe RGB, but some browsers cannot display it.

If you would like to have a RAW file I will upload one to my FTP-Server for you to download.

Then you could use your own workflow and see if you like the colors of the A900.
Personally, I love them ;) and I also have one S5 ...
