It seems the new OM5D has a very interesting feature: by means of sensor shift it produces enormous files: 40 megapixels!
If this system would be applied to a 36 mpx Nikon or Sony camera it would probably be about 130 mpx!
I think I will need a new computer....
Where will it ever end.
(Especially interesting for people that just publish their images on social media. )

130 Mp. Wow... For macro photography...
36Mp provides already incredible possibilities...
An example with my D800 and 105 AF-S VR macro lens
No sharpening has been applied to the underneath images
A screenshot of the AF area as seen in NikonViewNX:
And a 100% crop of the AF area:

Not just for macro; think of the opportunities for landscape photography. And, don't let us, please, think about making panoramas by means of combining images. That might produce enormous file sizes....
But, in a more serious way, it would allow us to use the normal quality of lenses for producing high quality landscapes. It raises the rendition of these lenses without having to buy extremely expensive ones. Moreover, telephoto lenses for birding etc. don't have to be that long -and expensive- because now cropping can solve a lot of problems.
