Accurate Marquee Selections in NX2

Making Accurate Marquee Selections in NX

Accurate Rectangular Marquee selections can be made in NX2 by means of the following method. The details below refer to putting a 2 pixel Black/White/Black frame around a 1620x1080 image.

In Edit> Preferences> Display set the Gridline to Every 2 pixels (Subdivisions=1).

In View, click on Show Grid.

Select the (Minus) Rectangular Marquee tool and with the full image visible on screen drag the tool from just inside the top left corner to just inside the bottom right corner. At this stage it is important to emphasise that you should not change from the Rectangular marquee tool or the “grab handles” in the corners of the marquee outline on screen will disappear. In the Bird’s Eye View, move the slider up to its maximum 1600% value. Use the scroll bars to the right and bottom of the image to navigate to the bottom right hand side of the image. Hover the mouse over the “grab handle” carefully until it changes to a double arrow. You can then click and drag the handle to the corner of the 6 pixels mark (three squares up and three squares in). Using the scroll bars to the right and bottom of the image navigate to the top left hand side of the image. Hover the mouse over the “grab handle” carefully until it changes to a double arrow. You can then click and drag the handle to the corner of the 6 pixels mark (three squares down and three squares in).

That’s the first selection done. At this stage you can click on Select Adjustment in the Select Adjustment Edit Step and select Colorize. Choose black and click OK.

Repeat the above step with the following changes:
Move the handle to the 4 pixel mark in each case (two squares in and two squares up/down). In the Colorize step choose White.

Repeat the original step with the following changes:
Move the handle to the 2 pixel mark in each case (one square in and one square up/down). In the Colorize step choose Black.

The result is a Black/White/Black line around the image each line being 2 pixels wide.

The three Colorize Edit Steps can, at this stage, be saved as a Settings File and loaded to any 1620x1080 image at a later date.

The methodology could be used to accurately create any width of border/frame around an image.
