Possible Nikon Capture NX2 improvements...

I am a very enthusiast Nikon Capture NX software user. With this software I PP and convert 99 % of my Nikon NEF files.
For browsing I prefer Nikon View NX for which there was recently an update v 1.2.2: http://www.fotografie.fr/fotoforum/view ... p?f=9&t=80

While using Capture NX2 since a couple of months on a Vista 64bit OS, and having encountered for the first time a crash of my Nikon View software (http://www.fotografie.fr/fotoforum/view ... ?f=9&t=154 ), I'm very curious about any possible improvement through updates and related program updates.
Recently I found some interesting information :
First there is a SP1 for .NET Framwork 3.5. .NET framework is an indispensable platform to run Capture NX, so I "guess" this update could be important. Same update for 32 and 64bit sytems. download can be found in this topic: http://www.fotografie.fr/fotoforum/view ... ?f=5&t=158

I my recent research I found out that Capture NX was developed with MS Visual Studio, which incorporates and uses Visual C++ libraries. the latest versions of the runtime components can be found here:
For 32bit OS:
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en
For 64bit OS:
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x64)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

After I installed the updates I experienced serious speed increase of Capture NX2. I also opened several groups of NEF files including some 85Mb Tiffs and both opening and working on the files is going faster than before. Also about program stability is seems to be flawless.

Please note that my experiences and notes in this topic are findings as a user, I have no idea nor background how these applications really work or how they have been developed. I don't have sufficient knowledge or background neither to discuss about this matter. What I know about this is based on some intensive google and reading work.

Someone on DPR just posted that NX2 started crashing *after* installing .NET framework 3.5

Yes, he's one of the many thousands who don't know that there is .NET framework 3.5 AND .NET framework 3.5 SP1 . You have t install both to work properly.
The mistake Nikon did is forgetting to mention that the .NET framework programs have to be updated. While installing the original NX, Capture installer was checking if .NET framework 2 was there...

Hi guys,

I think that there is lots of confusion about .net, the different versions are just that, different. If you have a .net 2 app you need .net 2 installed, having .net 1.1 and 3.5 with whatever service packs will still not let a .net 2 app run.

This is why I agree with Stany that installing 3.5 will not break nx - maybe the other users thought that they no longer needed the old version and binned it?

2 things that I will check though are what version of .net Capture NX2 needs (I thought it was 2) and whether or not 3.5 ships with Vista (3.5 is the version with all of the aero interface niceties).
