Home of Oskar Barnack the father of Leica: Wetzlar.
Last summer we visited Wetzlar (while having a bridge week in Hesborn). This is the hometown of Oskar Barnack, the one with whom it all began.
As his health was not 100% he had great difficulties to carry the heavy photographic equipment into nature. Therefore he invented a small camera: the Leica.
Everything what came thereafter is based upon that principle (24x36) and the Leitz lenses became worldfamous.
Also Nikon used some of the Leica-principles, but i am sure we all knew this already.
Wetzlar itself is a charming small (almost sleeping) town with a roman unique (one of the last) bridge over the river Lahn.
