Kid´s portrait with the A900 in studio

Post by pam.meier »

Here is one from a few hours ago. I love shooting children.
This was taken with the Zeiss 135/1.8 at f6.3. I´ll include a 100% crop from the left eye.

very convincing indeed... was this shot at ISO100 ? it seems that the D3x outperforms the A900 by far in high ISOs but based on this example the A900 could be a perfect camera for studio work (typically ISO100-200)...

Actually, this picture isn´t critically sharp, the DOF was rather small and the kid was moving.
But I don´t really see how the D3X could be better at ISO 200, as the AA-filter of the A900 is very weak and the Zeiss optics are all very sharp.

Hello Pam

Wow, I have to say the resolution is stunning. Sony's offering has never appealed to me because a lot of my shooting style involves dim light and high ISO, but the A900 seems a studio king indeed. Plus I like your portrait very much from an artistic point of view as well, it's very sweet, great job.

Thank you, Claire. I like using the D3 in available darkness better, too ;)
But it´s such a joy taking the A900 out into the field doing some landscape work on a tripod.
It never fails to "wow" me.
