Anybody collecting ("old") DSLR's ?

I have some old cameras(+30-40-50 years) and yesterdayI bought a Nikon DH1 in perfect condition, mainly just for collection purpose but I'm quite curious looking back to the results of a camera that I used to find great nearly 10 years ago...

After looking to the first results, especially while using this camera in low light, one thing became clear already, digital photography evolution goes incredibly fast... ;)
  • The LCD is completely unreliable
  • The AWB is dramatically bad
  • Resolution is that low that while using Nikon ViewNX2 and watching on a 21" monitor, the original image or a 100% view doesn't change image size very much...
Underneath an image opened in NX2 at 50%. The image was captured at iso1600 with my 50mm F1.8

..and opened in NX2 at 100%

  • I must say that iso 1600 with this camera without PP or noise reduction looks much better than I expected...
  • AF works very well.
  • The little RAW file size is very interesting for some purposes, Nikon should provide multiple RAW file formats in their latest high end cams like Canon does(Canon 5DMkII)
  • ...
Anybody else collecting cameras as a hobby?

Update: D1h photographic potential is better than I expected. 12 flowers with Nikon D1h...

Just found a D2x in condition "like new" for € 200. :D :D :D , my D1x, also like new- was € 140.
Next one will be a D3, but they are too expensive still to serve only for collection purpose.

D3s nostalgia

I sold my D3s for reasons of bulkiness and weight shortly after I got my D800. I loved it for a short shoot (with a not too heavy lens) but really hated the weight for longer use.
Tried one more time with D5 but finally went for D500, which I find an incredible camera BTW...
Yesterday I found a D3s in A++++++ condition at Art & Craft, took it in my hands and....
couldn't resist. :-)
My shoulder and back will hurt, my tendinitis will come up... :-(
But happy as I used to be in my childhood with a new toy I am now with this gorgeous stupid heavy pinhole brick, which has every single button there where it really has to be, with the second screen, with build in grip, with the perfect "click", with the seductive LCD illumination, and with an IQ that still can forfill at least 80% of my photographic needs...
What is sooooooo attractive in those Nikon pro bodies? :o  :?
Kindest regards,
Stany

Two out of the first pictures of my full time super model lady Panda with my 2017' D3s.
Images are SOOC with exception of resizing. AWB and PC set to standard. Taken with the mighty, prehistoric 28-105 ;) , a favorite lens of mine

iso 25600, straight OOC. Also taken with the prehistorical 28-105

Thanks for looking,

12Mp camera vs 36Mp camera...

To give an idea what 12Mp vs 36Mp means as it shows on screen I made a similar image with D800 and D3s and compared them side by side in Nikon Capture NX2.
Both images were taken on tripod, both with sigma 150-600 C at 600mm.
