How near is the end of SLR and phase detection AF?

Post by Stany Buyle »

With mirror less cameras gaining popularity and the improving contrast detection autofocus I wonder how near we are to the end of the big and heavy SLR cameras.
Mirror slap is often a reason for blur, live view taken macro pictures give almost always better sharpness than those taken in "normal" mode...
How long will it take before AF with contrast detection takes the lead over phase detection? Until now, even the revolutionary fast focusing panasonic GH2 can't be used for fast action... AF in live view/movie mode with my D7000 is VERY poor...
I did not have the opportunity yet to try the Sony approach for AF which they describe as extremely fast...

An article explaining AF and about phase AF vs contrast detection AF on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autofocus

Your thoughts on this subject? :geek: :?:
