A few weeks ago I got presented from Henk van Kooten, an extremely talented Dutch professional photographer and judge in a lot of photo contests, the book he wrote together with the Irish colleague Vincent O' Byrne about the task of a jury judging a photograph. And, for a good understanding, most important, judging is a form of art in its own!
It is extremely well written and it shows a thorough understanding of this difficult subject. Judging images, judging panels and most important, judging your own work.
It comprises the various methods of judging in the USA (PPA & ASP), United Kingdom (MPA & BIPP), Europe (FEP), Germany (BPP-IPQ), Ireland (IPPA), Australia (AIPP), World Press Photo (WPP) and a lot of other organisations.
This all goes accompanied by many images, panels of images from various countries and various judging standards. In short, a good reading for everyone who wants to raise the standards of his/her own photography.
It is written in the English language and it has been extremely helpful to -at least- me personally.
The book can be ordered at info@henkvankooten.com.
