Do you always use your lens hood? And why..

A lenshood is designed for two things:
To improve IQ by preventing unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens.
Secondly as a protection for accidental impact.

Even though most people know the above, I see many people shooting without...
Do you use your lens hood?
Did you ever test the difference in IQ with and without?

Thanks in advance for your input.
kindest regards,

Stany

I always use lens hoods, because I perfectly know that stray light can affect the picture quality; in addition to that I can protect the frontal lens without the need of screwing an UV filter (I dont' love them).

To be honest, I must add that I use hoods but that I don't love them from a logistic point of view: they are big and take a lot of space in my bag, so I should prefer that lens manufacturers provide some more confortable "telescopic hoods" that could disappear inside the lens when not in use.

But probably I'm asking too much to the fantasy of engineers. :D

Cheers

Yes, always, without any exception. For reasons afore mentionned.

Ditto. Always and without exception. Flare and loss of micro contrast are greatly reduced.
