Some Beauty retouching ...

Post by pam.meier »

Beauty retouching may take up hours of work time.
If you don´t want to spend as much time on an image and still get quite acceptable results like this:

Lighting set-up was very easy, 4 strobes, main light from the right, strip fill in from the left, two strobes on the background.
Sony A900, 24-70 CZ, 200 ISO, f11, 1/160 s.

Here is the image as it came out of the camera, processed with almost default in Lightroom:

After cleaning up some of the skin blemishes and tattoos. I used a level of 50% grey to create a dodge and burn effect.

You blend the level into the picture, so it looks like this:

Thanks for sharing Pam. I still haven't got round to doing any editing in PhotoShop so I don't have any experience of layers. I think that day is slowly creeping up on me though!

Thanks again

I started watching video tutorials on beauty retouching by Calvin Hollywood.
I think, he also publishes English content on the web. I like his straightforward way of teaching.
Much easier than reading tutorials and trying to hit the right settings.

Excellent. I wrote this simple tutorial many years ago. It requires layers but is VERY easy to do. http://dustylens.com/glamour_look.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; :D

Thanks, Steve :)

Yes, I frequently use the method you describe to create some "glow", the web is full of good tutorials for beauty retouching. I wil reduce the effect, though, to about 30-50%.
The inverted Highpass method is used to smoothen transitions from shadows to highlights. With the use of the D800 I don´t need to use it too often anymore ;)
