They said that they were made in Capture NX2 at the top of the page.

By the way I processed some of my D700 images in Lightroom 4 and it got rid of a lot of colour moire on the silk dresses (although it did block in some of the texture too) it actually did a better job on that than Capture NX 2 did.

They are much worse in the jpegs - but they are definitely there in the converted raw files too - look at the colour artefacts on the sign and the stripes on the shoes in the bin. Re: D800E and moire...

Hi Stany, that's pretty extreme! I got a lot of moire shooting silk based fabrics with the D700, and on some colours they made the shot almost impossible to fix (with my skill level) but then the pattern went when I printed them so it was OK! I see it most with MF shots that are resized for web (but...

Thanks for the examples Stany, it looks like you've taken a lot of time over this. I think that the left has a lot more detail - EXCEPT on the postage stamp.

So, assuming that the processing is the same I am going with left as the D800E or there being a slight focus difference.

I would go with the Zeiss on Sony if you still have your A900, that's a phenominal lens, so sharp and subtle at the same time, the images are very special. I've not tried the Nikon f1.8 though

This contradicts the urban legend ( as far as I am concerned) that medium format is by definition so much better than 35mm. I am guessing that the D400 might well be a 24mp sensor - probably a modification of the D3x sensor. That would leave an orderly progression from the D7000 (16mp), D400 (24mp), and D800 (36mp). Then for the low light folks, the D4. That would be one heck of a lineup! I still would be very surprised...

I also have a D700 and agree that there is more latitiude on the right side of the histogram with that sensor. I didn't do a comparison, but feel fairly sure that the snow in front of the doorway in several of the images, might have been "pulled back" more easily with a D700 ( and certain...

To add to what Leen said. Yes you can keep your lenses, if you have lenses with DX in the name then they will try to use a crop from the middle of the camera unless you set it not to. Even if you set it not to then most of the time you will get severe vignetting or even just black edges as the image...

Because of the perspective you get if you fill the frame with head and shoulders and the soft focus effect of shooting at f1.4 which hides blemishes on skin.

That was with 35mm film anyway :)

They look more like oil or molten plastic, how did you get the colours? Very nice images and you're right about the camera

This is a great image Stany - were you using your Macro flash or is this all ambient light (sorry if you've already told us!)

Re: Macros and Close up

I've been away for most of the month and only just read your comments Guy, thank you I think!! Can I trouble you to elaborate a bit please? I'm interested to hear more about what you think - I was trying something different with the first 2, I think that the ladybird is my favourite image at the mom...

Macros and Close up

Well, there I was awake at 4:15 this morning not wanting to start work so I decided I'd take my Sony out for a play in the park, Here are some of my favourites from the walk. I have also decided that I need to brush up on post processing for some stuff I have coming up, these were all lit by the Mec...

Re: A graceful ladybird...

That is actually very cool :) I think I must have got 2 posts muddled in my head by the way, I was referring to the technique of using wide angle with extension tubes, I liked the style of those images a lot, I was looking on my phone I think. Keep up the good work, I look forward to hearing your th...

Re: A graceful ladybird...

I really like the style Stany - how close are the subjects from the front of the lens? I am guessing just a few centimetres or less?

I've just been thinking that I've never knowingly seen ladybird eggs!

Re: Just received GH1 + 14-140 + 45mm macro...

My feelings about the G1 are somewhat different to Stany's I wouldn't dream of using it for AF macros (but then I AF Macros anyway, I am still blown away by the pictures of bees in flight that Stany takes). BUT for what I wanted it for it's almost ideal. It is small, with the pancake lens it fits in...

Re: I got my sony :)

I just saw that :)

Now is not the right time for me though - I don't have a lot of work lined up for June and much as I would love another a900 body right now I don't need one and I want to see what Sony are doing first too.

Thanks for pointing it out though!

Re: I got my sony :)

Not in Sony-land apparently, the A700 was discontinued ages ago and still no news on a real successor, I think that it might be the 850 is what you have to have if you want full frame for a while. According to the doom and gloom that is dpreview some people think that Sony might be withdrawing from ...

Micro Four Thirds Macro with adapter

Hi Stany, I got out in the sunshine this morning, it was a real effort but I have now taken some pictures on my G1 ;). These are all taken in the sun on ISO 400 with a Tamron 90mm with a cheap m43 adapter as it is a-mount. All were manual focus. There is a manual aperture control on the adapter, but...

Brilliant images Pam, very street and friendly at the same time, that's difficult to do! I would even go so far as to say I prefer these to your glamour ones, keep it up! :)

Re: Photomatix Pro 3.2.7

I really like them, especially the second one, it conveys quite a lot of emotion! I remember that app from when it was free/share ware I think a few years ago. It was the first one I used when I heard about HDR and seemed to be capable of giving very natural looking results. I think that I used to m...

You are not going to believe this Stany but I bought a G1 on Easter Monday! I'm really loving it - my main reasons were to have something to carry around when my a900 is too big - and also to have something that could be adapted to take lots of other lenses so that I can use it as a back up camera t...

Hey Stany, Have you had a play with this yet? I had another play today, this time with 5 images handheld and then stitched together (my shortest lens on sony is 50mm and that was at home and I wanted to get both buildings in) so I did this... http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2703/4436115980_d9bfcb9697...

These are excellent for shots from a non dedicated lens Stany, well done!

How close is the crop on the one with the fly?

Hey Stany, I think I can answer a lot of this but am happy to be corrected if I make any mistakes! The difference between front and back illuminated structures is where the electrical parts of the chip sit, on a front illuminated sensor all of the electronics are on the same side of the chip as the ...

Re: Kalahari Leopard cubs.

These are really well captured Marc, how long did you take stalking them to be able to capture these shots? Leopards always look so magnificent and confident, they don't look as scary as some other big cats as they almost look down on humans as too easy to even bother with! Still, I wouldn't like to...
