EOS R5 exceptional AF capabilities

Post by Stany Buyle »

Ahead of my user review after 4 months with EOS R5 I post some pictures of a little bird flying an erratic and fast trail around a brook to illustrate the exceptional AF capabilities of the EOS R5.
Because of its erratic flight, and at 400mm to capture as much detail as possible it was especially difficult to keep the bird in my viewfinder..
Shutter speed was 1/8000 sec.

Despite the high speed and very erratic flight trail the camera with my 100-400 vII (+adapter) could keep focus as long as I could follow the bird in my viewfinder

The entire scene:

And a 100% crop of one of the images:

All underneath pictures are screenshots. All images are without any PP.

EOS R5 exceptional AF capabilities: R5 with RF800 F11

Post by Stany Buyle »

Good afternoon to all of you!

One more time my R5 & RF800 delivers in a way I did not expect (*) from a ML camera combined with a 800mm F11 tele, and lighting onditions weren't even optimal...
Images are straight OOC with settings which you can see paste.
NO post processing, with exception of being heavily cropped.
Shutter speed was 1/8000 sec.
((*)
Because of the speed and erratic flight trail of swallows... I would love a 1/16000 shutter speed update)

Kingfisher flying very fast in the air- R5' AF keeps up...

Post by Stany Buyle »

Another sample that shows the R5' exceptional AF.
4 images of a kingfisher taken in a fraction of a second while flying very fast in the air above me. The main problem trying to capture this is to keep the little bird in the viewfinder...

A screenshot of the shots, with file numbers:

The images, all 4 in focus. Of course it is impossible to capture feather detail at this speed..
