macro with EOS R5 & 180mm vs sigma 105mm+2xTC

Post by Stany Buyle »

Both lenses work well on EOS R5 but both are slow-focusing for somebody who is doing handheld macro photography as I do.
The Nikon combination with their outstanding 105 AF-S VR + 2xTC (also with adapter on Z bodies) was focusing MUCH faster than both the Canon 180mm &/or the sigma 105mm with or without the sigma 2 x TC on my EOS R5.
For successful handheld macro photography fast to superfast AF is simply a must as focus must adapt VERY fast to the slightest movement of the subject because of wind of camera movement.
The possibility of 20 fps with R5 compensates somewhat for the lack of AF speed of the mentioned two lenses.
The focusing speed is the only reason I will move to the RF 100 mm macro lens.
For close-up photography when some distance from the subject is required, the 100-400 vII is doing an outstanding job, with fast focusing speed.
